Design: The Open Book
Digital strategy + design
The Open Book
As one of the editors of The Open Book, a crowdsourced publication that explored the social and technological manifestations of a global movement for open knowledge, I was commissioned by the Finnish Institute to design the web interface for the book.
This included an interactive “Evolution of Open Knowledge” timeline, built in collaboration with the Open Knowledge Foundation and code from Timeliner.js, which allowed viewers to easily input their own submissions.
For the website’s design, I mashed up public domain images and Open Source typefaces in a copy-and-paste visual style to convey the collaborative, grassroots themes of the book in a digital setting.
